Koffin Kats besökte den svenska huvudstaden redan förra året. Ett gig som jag tyvärr missade, men som min kollega Tottie hyllade. Elva månader senare får jag äntligen chansen att se dessa amerikanska psychobilly-rävar, när Klubb Dislocated ännu en gång har lyckats locka bandet till Stockholm, och till och med till samma lokal som förra gången; Broder Tuck.
Bandet ger hundra procent från första sekund. Att se sångaren och basisten Vic Victor äga scengolvet på ett majestätiskt sätt är magiskt. Trots att utrymmet på scenen denna kväll är mycket begränsat så hindrar det inte honom från att köra sin show fullt ut. Jag tvivlar dessutom på att han skulle ha några som helst problem att ta en mycket större scen på samma majestätiska sätt. Även gitarristen EZ Ian visar att han har roligt när han är överallt och ingenstans på samma gång. Visst saknas den där extra nivån med energin som bandet har gjort sig kända för (se valfritt klipp på YouTube), men det har nog sin enkla förklaring i att lokalen är så fruktansvärt varm och kvav.
Ljudbilden är imponerande. Allt hörs tydligt. Basljudet är precis sådär bra som man önskar av ett psychobilly-band. Det är även imponerande att se alla konster som Vic gör med sin stora bas. Hur man spelar bakom huvudet med en sådan kontrabas är för mig obegripligt. När han och EZ dessutom byter instrument under ett långt instrumentalt parti når konserten sin klimax.
Konserten är en timlång uppvisning i psychobilly i ett, oftast, högt tempo. Trots att lugnare nummer som Vampire’s Curse och The Bottle Called går hem bra hos publiken så är ändå bandet som bäst under snabbare nummer som Splatterhouse, som dessutom bjuder på kvällens absolut bästa sånginsats med sin mäktiga refräng. Även Choke och Above Me, Beyond You är lysande ikväll. Men kvällens absoluta höjdpunkt är den mörka Saw My Friend Explode Today.
Jag kan inte göra annat än att instämma i Tottie’s hyllningar och ännu en gång ge bandet ett bra betyg och hoppas på ett snart återseende.
Bäst: Förutom Saw My Friend Explode Today så måste jag nämna Vic Victor’s sångröst.
Sämst: Att lokalen är så otroligt varm och kvav att det mot slutet blir olidligt.

Koffin Kats already visited the Swedish capital last year. A gig that I unfortunately missed, but that my colleague Tottie acclaimed. Eleven months later, I finally get the chance to see these American psychobilly-chaps, when Klubb Dislocated has once again managed to attract the band to Stockholm, and even to the same venue as last time; Broder Tuck.
The band gives a hundred percent from the first second. Seeing the singer and bassist Vic Victor take the stage floor in a majestic way is magical. Although the space on stage this evening is very limited it does not prevent him from running his show in full. I also suspect that he would have no problems taking a much bigger stage in this majestic way. Guitarist EZ Ian proves that he is having fun when he is everywhere and nowhere at the same time. They are certainly missing that extra level of energy that the band has become known for (see any clip on YouTube), but that can easily be explained because the room is so terribly hot and muggy.
The sound is impressive. Everything can be heard clearly. The great bass sound is exactly what one wishes from a psychobilly band. It is also impressive to see all the tricks that Vic does with his big bass. How to play behind his head with a contrabass is beyond me. When he and EZ also switch instruments during a long instrumental part the concert reaches its climax.
The concert is a one hour long show of psychobilly in a (mostly) high tempo. Although quieter numbers such as Vampire’s Curse and The Bottle Called goes home well with the audience, the band is at its best during the faster numbers like Splatterhouse, which also offers the evening’s best vocal performance with its powerful chorus. Choke and Above Me, Beyond You are also brilliant tonight. But tonight’s absolute highlight is the dark Saw My Friend Explode Today.
I can not help but agree with Tottie’s tributes and once again give the band a good review and hope to see them again soon.
Best: Besides Saw My Friend Explode Today, I have to mention Vic Victor’s singing voice.
Worst: The venue is so incredibly hot and muggy that it becomes unbearable at the end.
