Corey Taylors Stone Sour är brännheta efter släppet av House Of Gold & Bones Part 1 och de avslutade ett lyckat år storstilat med en sista spelning på Annexet i Stockholm.
Corroded värmde upp den förväntansfulla publiken med en tung, men kort show. Åskådarna stod blickstilla och nickade med sina huvuden i takt till musiken. Jag kunde inte hålla mig från att fnittra till lite när jag upptäckte att det var det de flesta höll på med där framför scenen, det såg lite komiskt ut.
Kvällens bästa låt måste ha varit den gamla godingen Six Ft. Of Anger som vi fick veta handlar om när de inte får socker i turnébussen, öl i logen och andra stunder när de inte får som de vill. Frontmannen Jens Westin är rolig att lyssna på när han berättar om låtarna (vi får till exempel lära oss att första låten på skivorna alltid handlar om sångaren) och bandet är riktigt charmigt.
Jag uppskattar det gamla materialet mer än låtarna från nya plattan State Of Disgrace som släpptes i år. Publiken kommer igång ordentligt på slutet och övergår från försiktigt nickande till handklapp och allsång.
Efter spelningen börjar det gå vilt till i baren och folk snubblar över varandra när de trängs för att förse sig med mer alkohol. Man kan lugnt säga att det var mer fest denna onsdag än vad det var förra lördagen när jag såg Refused på samma scen. (Börjar folk få ångest över den påstådda undergången av jorden eller vad kan det bero på?)
När Stone Sour äntligen intar scenen uppstår stort jubel och det börjar headbangas i trängseln. Man får se sig för så att inte ölen spills ut. Inledande låt är inte helt oväntat första låten från nya plattan, Gone Sovereign, och energiknippet Corey Taylor är omtänksam och kastar ut vattenflaskor till publiken. Han är oerhört attraktiv på scenen och sköter sitt jobb klanderfritt, även om det ibland är lite svårt att höra vad han sjunger. Högre ljud på micken, tack!
Han påpekar ofta och mycket hur otroligt snygga, bra, duktiga och fantastiska vi i publiken är, vilket man inte tröttnar på att få höra i första taget. Han tycker att den svenska publiken blir bättre och bättre för varje gång de spelar i Sverige och att kvällens gig är det bästa de någonsin har gjort i detta avlånga land.
Under Hell & Consequences börjar svetten rinna på denna heta karl och han smiter in bakom en högtalare för att torka av sig på en handduk under gitarrsolot. Jag noterar att han råkar spilla ut vatten över sig själv och skrattar gott åt detta. Han är så het att vattnet antagligen genast kokade bort.
I år är det tioårsjubileum av första plattan Stone Sour och det vill de fira med att bjuda oss på en låt från sagda album som de inte har framfört i Sverige på länge (han påpekar också här att Sverige givetvis är favoritlandet att spela i). Innan Blotter körs igång presenterar han sina eminenta bandmedlemmar Josh Rand, Johny Chow, James Root och Roy Mayorga samt klargör att hela Annexet bör explodera av allt röj han förväntar sig från publiken.
När Corey frågar oss hur många som har sett dem tidigare hörs ett försiktigt jubel. Det är första gången för många och detta verkar gillas av frontmannen som viger in nybörjarna i Stone Sour-familjen.
Made Of Scars hör till kvällens bättre låtar och de glada åskådarna hjälper snällt till med allsång. I baren längst bak pågår röjet för fullt och ställer man sig där överröstar publiken tyvärr musiken ibland. Det står bland annat en karl bakom mig och growlar med i musiken. Jag blir avbruten av engelsktalande kille som försöker få till en konversation med en märkbart ointresserad tjej som står och antecknar febrilt. När han till slut frågar mig om jag pratar engelska blir jag ställd och vet inte om jag ska svara ja eller nej. Återgår till antecknandet istället. Nästa försök till konversation kommer från en kille som har turen att snabbt nämna Iron Maiden och på så sätt faktiskt lyckas fånga min uppmärksamhet. Han hade uppenbarligen huvudet på skaft trots ett stort ölintag.
Bother inleds med vers och refräng från Alice In Chains låt Nutshell och vi får sedan höra första versen i Stevie Wonders låt Superstition innan Through Glass. Den mysiga stämningen som uppstår under sistnämnda låt är påtaglig och det råder ingen tvekan om att extranumrena är publikfavoriterna ikväll.
Tyvärr har även denna spelning ett slut och det kommer alldeles för fort ikväll. Jag hade gärna stått och drägglat över Corey Taylor samt lyssnat på hans skönsång ett tag till faktiskt.
Bäst: Corey Taylors snygghet, charm och sång.
Sämst: Att inte Stone Sour spelar i Sverige lite oftare.

LIVE: Stone Sour – Annexet – Stockholm

Corey Taylor’s Stone Sour are burning hot after the release of House Of Gold & Bones Part 1, and they finish off a good year with a grand finale at Annexet in Stockholm.
Corroded got the audience warmed up with a heavy but short show. The crowd stood still and nodded their heads to the music. I couldn’t keep myself from giggling a little bit since it looked kind of funny when everybody was doing it.
The best song they played tonight must have been the old gem Six Ft. Of Anger which we were told is about the times when they don’t get sugar on the tourbus, beer in the dressing room or any other time when they don’t get what they want. The frontman Jens Westin is fun to listen to when he talks between the songs (for example he teaches us that the first song on their records is always about the singer) and the band is very charming.
I appreciate the old material more than the material from the new album State Of Disgrace, that was released earlier this year. The crowd finally gets more energetic at the end of the show and the careful headnodding develops into handclapping and singing.
After the show it gets kind of hectic in the bar and people are tripping over each other when getting more alcohol. You can easily say that there’s more partying going on this wednesday than when I saw Refused live on the same stage last saturday. (Are people having anxiety about the end of the world or what?!)
When Stone Sour finally enter the stage the cheering and headbanging immediatly begins. You have to look out for your beer so it doesn’t get spilled. The first song is, not so unexpectedly, the first song on the new album, Gone Sovereign, and the bundle of energy Corey Taylor shows is very caring and he throws out waterbottles to the audience. He is extremely attractive on stage and does his job flawless even though it sometimes is a bit difficult to hear what he’s singing. More volume on the microphone, please!
He points out how very fine, good, capable and fantastic we are in the audience which we never get tired of hearing. He says that the swedish crowd gets better and better every time they play here and that this is certainly the best gig they’ve ever played in Sweden.
During Hell & Consequences it starts to get hot on stage and this fine man sneaks behind a speaker to wipe off some sweat on a towel during the guitar solo. I notice that he accidentally spills water on himself and laughs at this. He’s so hot that the water probably just immediatly evaporated.
This year is the ten year anniversary of their first album Stone Sour and they want to celebrate this by playing a song from said album that they haven’t played in Sweden in a very long time (he also points out that Sweden is of course their favourite country to play in). Before Blotter starts playing he introduces his eminent bandmembers Josh Rand, Johny Chow, James Root and Roy Mayorga. He also announces that he now wants the whole place to explode with energy from the audience.
When Corey asks the crowd how many of us have seen them live before a quiet cheer is heard. Apparently most people are seeing them live for the first time tonight. Corey seems to like this fact and welcomes everybody to the Stone Sour family.
Made Of Scars is one of tonights best songs and the audience happily helps out with the singing. The party is crazy at the bar in the back and the peoples singing almost drowns out the band. There’s even a guy behind me who’s growling to the music. I suddenly get interuppted in my writing by an english guy who tries to get a conversation going even though I’m definitely not interested and very busy taking notes. When he eventually asks me if I speak english I get distracted and don’t really know if I should say yes or no. So I go back to taking notes instead. The next attempt to a conversation is from a guy who happens to mention Iron Maiden (which, luckily for him, happens to be the best band in the world) in the first sentence and actually gets my attention. He was obviuosly a clever guy despite all the beer he had been drinking this evening.
Bother starts off with the first verse and chorus from Alice In Chains song Nutshell and we also get to hear the first verse in Stevie Wonder’s song Superstition before Through Glass comes on. The cozy atmosphere during that last song is totally obvious and the crowd definitely appreciates the last songs on tonights setlist the most.
Unfortunately even this gig has to come to and end and it happens way too fast tonight. I would definitely have liked to stand there drooling over Corey Taylor and listen to his awesome singing a while longer.
Best: Corey Taylors hotness, charm and singing.
Worst: That Stone Sour don’t play in Sweden more often.
