Några timmar innan det är dags för Lonely Kamel att äntra Debasers scen och värma upp publiken inför The Sword tar jag mig ett snack med bandets sångare/gitarrist Thomas och gitarristen Lukas.
Access: För de som inte vet vilka ni är, vill ni presentera er? Hur startade bandet?
Thomas: Vi har alla känt varandra ett par år och funderade på om vi skulle börja spela lite ihop, så vi började jamma fram några låtar. Vi är fyra man från Oslo som spelar bluesbaserad tung stonerrock.
Access: Det är spännande att ni spelar just den genren då ni är från Norge där det är black-metal som gäller, jag tänker på Dimmu Borgir, Immortal, Darkthrone med flera.
Lukas: Det finns en hel del andra människor i Norge som inte enbart gillar black metal, men det är inte många som spelar vår genre.
Access: Ska jag vara ärlig har jag inte hört så mycket från Norge förutom de nyss nämnda banden och lite mer kommersiell rock som Kvelertak och Turbonegro.
Thomas: Kvelertak är inte kommersiell rock, de spelar ju ganska hårt. De är inga sellouts precis.
Lukas: Vi är ju såna på Napalm Records, sellouts (skratt).
Access: Ni gör det bara för pengarna?
Thomas: Nej, då hade vi inte varit här. Då hade vi varit hemma och gjort något annat.
Access: Så ni har andra jobb vid sidan om? Eller kan ni försörja er på musiken?
Thomas: Nej, det kan vi inte utan vi måste även jobba heltid.
Access: Ingen rockdröm med nakna kvinnor och stort hus då?
Thomas: Det har vi, men det är bara för att vi är från Norge (skratt). Vi är på väg uppåt, målet är att kunna försörja oss på musiken i slutändan.
Access: Hur går skrivprocessen till i bandet? Vem är den kreativa hjärnan bakom låtarna?
Lukas: Om någon har en idé så förvaltar vi den. Men det är Thomas som kommer med de flesta idéer.
Thomas: Det är naturligt för den som spelar gitarr..
Lukas: .. och sjunger ..
Thomas: .. att komma med idéer som vi sedan formar tillsammans medan vi jammar.
Access: Texterna med?
Lukas: Det är bara Thomas.
Thomas: Det handlar om att få texterna och musiken att hänga samman.
Lukas: Sedan lyssnar vi på en hel del musik så man blir blir inspirerad, ligger i sängen, ser på tv och spelar gitarr (skratt).
Thomas: Vi har aldrig sagt att vi ska vara ett stoner-band utan det har bara blivit så.
Access: Hur spelar ni in era album? Är det analogt som Graveyard för att få fram den där sköna retro-känslan eller kör ni i en hightech-studio?
Lukas: Hade vi haft jävligt mycket pengar och mer tid hade vi valt analogt, men det blir billigare med en liten PC.
Thomas: Det ska vara billigt som fan och gå fort. Vi försöker återskapa live-känslan på albumen då vi är tyngre live, men vi har inte riktigt nått dit ännu. Vi repar en hel del och finslipar detaljer innan vi går in i studion, det är inte precis gratis att hyra en studio och bosätta sig där under en månad.
Access: Ni har ingen hemmastudio?
Thomas: Vi har i replokalen, men den använder vi mest till att spela in demos.
Access: Vad är era framtidsplaner?
Thomas: Vi har varit ute med The Sword över hela Europa från sjätte januari och turnén slutar imorgon den 27 januari i Köpenhamn. Det har gått väldigt bra, vi har fått spela för en helt ny publik och fått god respons som förhoppningsvis kommer tillbaka till oss i slutändan. Vi är bokade till Dessertfest Berlin i april där även Pentagram och Witchcraft kommer att spela.
Vi är öppna för allt, det är därför vi håller på att promota oss själva just nu.
Access: Har ni några sista visdomsord ni vill dela med er av?
Thomas: Ja, Bombus suger (skratt).
Matte från Bombus: Det är tur att jag inte talar norska.
Lukas: Några visdomsord, ja, que, sera, sera. Simma lugnt. Kör hårt (skratt).

Interview – Lonely Kamel
A few hours before it’s time for Lonely Kamel to enter Debaser’s stage and warm up the audience before The Sword I did an interview with the band’s singer/guitarist Thomas and guitarist Lukas.
Access: For those who do not know who you are, would you please introduce yourself? How did you start the band?
Thomas: We’ve all known each other for a few years and we tried to jam out some tunes and that’s how it started. We are four men from Oslo who plays blues-based heavy stoner rock.
Access: It’s interesting that you play that kind of genre in Norway, where black metal is so big, I’m think of Dimmu Borgir, Immortal, Darkthrone etc.
Lukas: There are a lot of people in Norway who does not only like black-metal, but there are not many who play our genre.
Access: To be honest, I have not heard so much from other bands than the ones I named and Kvelertak and Turbonegro, a little more commercial rock.
Thomas: Kvelertak’s not commercial rock, they play pretty hard. They are not sellouts.
Lukas: Not like us at Napalm Records, sellouts (laughs).
Access: So you are doing it just for the money?
Thomas: No, we wouldn’t be here if we were. Instead we would be home and do something else.
Access: So you have other jobs on the side? Or can you live on your music?
Thomas: No, we also have to work full time.
Access: No rock dream with naked women and big houses then?
Thomas:We have that, but that’s just because we are from Norway (laughs). We’re on our way up, the goal is to be able to support us through the music.
Access: How is the writing process for the band? Who is the creative brain behind the songs?
Lukas: If anyone has an idea, we look into it. But it’s Thomas who comes with most ideas.
Thomas: It is natural for those who play guitar ..
Lukas: .. and sing ..
Thomas: .. to come up with an idea which we form together while we jam.
Access: What about lyrics?
Lukas: It’s just Thomas.
Thomas: It’s all about getting the lyrics and the music to hang together.
Lukas: We listen to a lot of music, so we get inspired, lying in bed, watching TV and playing guitar (laughs).
Thomas: We never said that we would be a stoner band, it just turned out like that.
Access: How do you record your album then? Is it analogous like Swedish Graveyard to get that nice retro feel or do you use a a high-tech studio?
Lukas: If we had more money and time, we had chosen analogy, but it’s be cheaper with a small PC.
Thomas: We are trying to recreate the live feeling on the albums as we are heavier live. But we have not quite reached that point yet. We rehearse a lot, and brush up the details before we go into the studio, it’s not exactly free to book a studio and live there for a month.
Access: Don’t you have a home studio?
Thomas: We have one in the rehearsal room, but we use it mostly to record demos.
Access: What are your future plans?
Thomas: We’ve been out on the road with The Sword throughout Europe from January 6 and the tour ends tomorrow January 27 in Copenhagen. It has gone very well, we have got to play for a whole new audience and received good feedback, which hopefully will come back to us in the end. We are booked for Dessertfest Berlin in april where Pentagram and Witchcraft will play.
We are open to all, that is why we are in the process to promote ourselves right now.
Access: Do you have any last words of wisdom you would like to share with us?
Thomas: Yes, Bombus sucks (laughs).
